New Desk

For almost 10 years I’ve used the same desk at home. I originally bought it for the way it could handle a lager CRT monitor. In particular the corner design saved quite a bit of space.

For those who think social media doesn’t work…. On Tuesday August 1st 2011.

  • Two people asked where they can get umbrella’s downtown as rain was starting to fall; Novak’s replied. Result probably two sales and possibly more.
  • Several people noted a error about the Urban League of London in a London Free Press story. The Free Press was informed and corrected the story.
  • 2 people had an interesting conversation/debate about how tattoos and other symbols on a person affects other people’s perception of that person.

Not too bad at all. Makes my happy that this technology and method of engagement exists.

Podcamp 2011 post notes

Another PodCamp has come and gone and a very successful one at that. We had less people and less speakers but in my own opinion this improved the quality of the event, too many of both can dilute the experience that is an UnConference.

We were also able to have the UnLab open all day as a space for attendees to check out.  Devon had the makerbot and Jamie had the unbot roaming the hallways. In addition a new participant brought out a very cool homebuilt mame arcade machine. The newly constructed podcast studio also attracted quite a bit of attention. Doors and some cosmetic additions still have to be installed but the space worked very well with several streaming broadcasts occurring on Friday night and Saturday during PodCamp.

I am looking forward to seeing people make more use of the UnLab as a Make/Tech/Arts space that will hopefully see some innovative ideas to benefit the community at large.

IPad2 One Week Later

I have had the iPad now for about a week and it has been meeting or exceeding my expectations at all levels. I definatly have no regrets about lining up in the cold for several hours to purchase it.

The on screen keyboard is even more easier to get used too then I thought it would be. I can touch quite comfortably or even use four fingers while sitting in a chair as I’m doing right now.

Most of the apps I intend to use have an iPad equivalent and all of them are working well for me. The one minor quibble I have is with a twitter client that will do everything. At the moment my favorite is Osfoora which i am finding very responsive.

I’ve downloaded/purchased several other apps at the app store and as usual the process has been very smooth with no problems.

I love the battery life and instant on feature. I also notice it connects far faster on my iPhone 3 to a known hotspot.

I’ll post more as I continue to use the device.
