A Little Star Gazing
Since I’m getting back into a little astronomy again I thought I’d share a few highlights of the night sky as I see them.
Some very clear skies tonight. Although the moon while not full
still casts quite a bit of light, however it helps us find Saturn quite
easily tonight. For the next few evenings if we keep these clear skies,
go out after 9pm once the moon has risen high in the sky.
Face south and look almost straight up. You will see the moon and
what looks like two stars to it’s left. The far left star is actually
the planet Saturn. The next one to the right is the star Regulus.
Regulus is one of the brighter stars in the sky and is the brightest star in the constellation Leo
If you looking for a good astronomy programs, one of the best is Stellarium which is a free open source program. Versions are available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
